When done right, there is nothing more classic then this
Milwakee manufactured American motorcycle.
The style is lifted right out of the American heartland of the
1950's.
Over fifty years later it still makes a statement.
Big, rebelious, powerful and free styling.
Whenever I climb on board I feel like no one is living
larger then me.

Let's Start here: A Standard 2002 Heritage Softail Classic

I have this affinity for that classic looking 1950's American motorcycle ever since my cousin Dickie showed up at my house,when I was six years old, with a green 1953 Harley Davidson FL Pan Head. He took me for a short ride up the street and I hung on to him like he was between me and death. I didn't realize it then but it was a very significant minds eye picture for what I deemed the perfect riding machine.

I have had a number of motorcycles in my fifty something years on this planet. From 1947 Harleys to 1966 650 Triumphs and BSA's to 1974 Hondas. I had bulit a custom FXDL a few years ago and thought that was the ultimate ride.Only to find out that the bike was so small and rigid that I could not ride it for more than forty five minutes before I needed to get off and visit my chiropractor.

I then decided that a Road King was the true and ultimate vehichle for my riding desires.I had always rented a Road King or Electra Glide whenever my wife Catharine and I went on our riding vacations every year.We loved the comfortable ride and the many hours we were able to travel without feeling fatigued. Plus the storage on these bikes are always resourceful. Alot has to do with Catharine's packing techniques.So I took a trip to my favorite cycle shop,Ultimate Custom Cycles, and asked Bernie,one of the owners if he new of anyone who was selling a Road King. He said not now but he would keep his ears and eyes opened.Then he told me he just bought a new Heritage Classic and that the bike was not really him. He was more of a custom Low Rider kind of guy. Then he asked me if I would consider some kind of trade. My 1998 custom Low Rider with 7800 miles for his 2002 Heritage Classic with 700 miles on it.In my mind I'm thinking,only if it is black would I consider it.Well of course the bike was black and Bernie invited me to use the bike over the weekend.I agreeded and after being on the bike five minutes I was so impressed with how the bike handled and how it fit me my mind was made up. we made an even swap. Everyone was happy. So now when I sleep at night I picture myself back in 1953 clinging on to my cousin Dickie only now the bike is black and I have a beard.
